Today is May 24th and it is a holiday weekend. On Monday we celebrate Memorial Day. As we remember our beloved dead, we hear the mandate that it is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead. I can remember as a youngster that we went to the local cemeteries and decorated the graves of our relatives who had died. In those moment at their grave sites, we remembered those who had gone before

A memorial to the living
The parents of a young man who was killed in a recent military action, gave their church a check for two hundred dollars as a memorial to their loved one. Sixth Sunday Of Easter • The Demonic And The Divine
Greetings from the Pastor, Week of May 17, 2009
Today we gather together to celebrate the Mass for the Sixth Sunday of Easter. In the First reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we see the Kingdom extended beyond the Hebrew Nations. Peter says, “In truth, I see that God shows us partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears Him and acts uprightly is acceptable to Him.” While Peter was still speaking those things, the Holy Spirit fell upon

Make love a fact, not a phrase
It’s an easy thing this loving others. We learn the word so early in life. Tiny children are held aloft to friend and family as we beckon “Tell Auntie that you love her. Tell Grandpa you love him.” It isn’t an action we ask them to emulate, just mere parroting of phrases. And as adults we are guilty of the same. It’s enough to say what we feel, and ignore the actions that belie it. We can claim

Act in love
“Too many people sit in front of warm hearths and full tables, asking God to teach them to love their neighbor. It takes no deep teaching to carry food to the needy or give shelter to the homeless. Do not sit and ask to be given love, get out and act love first and you will be given all you need.”C. Lee

Mary carries Jesus to the world
Like Mary, let us be full of zeal to go in haste to give Jesus to others. She was full of grace when, at the annunciation, she received Jesus. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY FROM THE STAFF & OUTREACH OF STS. PETER & PAUL PARISH!
