FIRST READING -Exodus 3:1-8,13-15
The story of Moses reveals a lag time between God’s judgement and God’s mercy. Justice and mercy are two sides of the same coin but the distance between them is seldom paper thin. The history of the Israelites is a drama involving both God’s judgement and mercy.
SECOND READING- 1 Corinthians 10:1-6,10-12
God’s love is not conditional, but how it is experienced is determined by the people’s own faithfulness. There is an element of judgement in God’s mercy, and an element of mercy in God’s judgement.
GOSPEL- Luke 13:1-9
God sometimes extends mercy to others through us. We are responsible for giving second chances to other people, and we are responsible for giving them what they need to grow. God works both in us and through us.
