Food Awareness for 2010
“One can/package of food per person, per weekend..”
Aloha!
Here is something I took from the recent newsletter of the I.H.S (the Institute for Human Services-Ke Ala Kupono-the Worthy Path) Not having a family and living here at the church I found this surprising. For those of you who may not know of I.H.S., they are an Emergency Shelter and offer other services to the homeless and are located across from K-mart on Nimitz Hwy., for the men. And for the women/children, their I.H.S is a few blocks down the street near Dillingham Blvd. Here is an excerpt from the newsletter as follows:
STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE IN PARADISE
The cost of living in Hawaii was already a challenge before the economic quake we experienced in 2009. A 2005 study on Economic Well Being in Hawaii commissioned by Aloha United Way showed that a single mother living on Oahu with two children needed to make $54,000 or $25.64 per hour to make ends meet. A two-parent family with the same two children required annual income of $58,000 to make it. These figures did not include funding for a car or for a significant amount of entertainment, or any other extras.
If this proves to be accurate, I don’t know how people do it? God love ya! And thanks for all you do!
Love Ya!
