Greetings from the Pastor
Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time:
A Word To Followers
Today we come together with the Feast of All Saints in sight. As followers of Christ we are asked to serve God in a special way. There are rules and regulations we are asked to obey. For the most part it is not difficult for us to obey God’ s commands but sometimes we are asked to go one step further in how we serve God. Considering the reward that awaits us, we should make our obedience something we want to do.
In our daily lives as followers of Christ we have His example to follow. He came to earth for one purpose, to be the savior of the world. He did this well and became the aim of how we love.
There is a page from the Book of Life sitting on my desk in front of me. Right now it is empty but by the time I finish it will be filled with the names of my beloved dead. As I write each name a face and a memory come to my mind. I remember them all, who they were, what they did and what they meant to me. Remember it is a Holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead. The prayers we offer help them on their way to salvation. As the Administrator here at Sts. Peter and Paul, it is a sacred duty for me to remember them each by name and I do.
I have a heads up for you. Our Annual Advent Service is just ahead. Father Philip Chircop will be here and has given me a heads up on his arrival. It is important for us to celebrate Advent in a prayerful way and we always do that.
I would ask you to continue to keep my brother, Dan, in your prayers. As you all know he is my twin and four minutes older than I. Four minutes I say and that is a long interval between births. He is married and has five children who have made him a grandfather of fourteen! He has always been there for me and now I pray for him each day and ask you to do the same. When I was on the mainland last month, I spent some quality time with him and since my return I’m only a telephone call away.
