Week of August 28, 2011

Today as we gather together to celebrate the Mass for the Twenty-Second Sunday of Ordinary Time, the words of the prophet Jeremiah greet us, “You duped me, O Lord, and I let myself be duped.” We are always at the beck and call of the Lord. We readily follow Him and the outcome is a success for the Lord. This is the way it should be in our dealing with God on a daily basis.

Week of August 21, 2011

Today we move along in our Sunday celebration as we gather together for the
Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings today are from the Book of Isaiah, Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans and the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. The readings are a good selection from the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Gospel.

Week of August 14, 2011

Today we come together to celebrate the Mass for the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The reading from Isaiah tells us that His house is a joyous place for prayers. It is set apart and a house of prayer for all people. To this day the Church we worship is such a place. Once we enter the church there is a silence which captures us. We know that this is where we want to be and a place that brings us peace.

Week of August 7, 2011

Today we gather together to celebrate the Mass for the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the first reading from the First Book of Kings, Elijah stands on the Mt. of Horeb and is told that the Lord will pass by. First a strong wind passes by and the Lord is not in the wind. Then there was an earthquake but the Lord is not in the earthquake. Then a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. Then there was a tiny whispering sound, then the Lord was in the wind and Elijah hid his face in his cloak.
