Today as we celebrate the Mass for the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, the members of the Society of Jesus throughout the world celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius Loyola, their founder. Since I entered the Society of Jesus, July 30, 1955, I now celebrated my fifty-sixth anniversary as a member of the Jesuits. A lot has happened since that Saturday in 1955.

On his part Solomon fears being king. He feels he is not able to be a success. We can sense how he is feeling because we feel the same way in our own relationship with God. When we see the result of this conversation it helps us in our own prayers. We know that God hears us and answers us in a manner that will be to our benefit.

Our first reading comes from the Book of Wisdom and tells us how to treat one another, always with kindness and concern. God has asked us to live with each other in a very special way with respect and love. If we don’t do this then something very special is missing in how we serve God.

Under the guidance of Father Dave, the various ministries of Sts Peter and Paul church have begun preparing for the liturgical changes. Preparations include providing resources of information that will help Sts Peter and Paul parishioners understand and embrace the revised translation.
