Week of May 29, 2011
Today we gather together to celebrate the Sixth Sunday of Easter. We move along reliving the Resurrection of the Lord, it is the foundation of our belief. If Christ was not risen from the dead, then all that we believe would be fruitless and in vain. But because He is risen, all we are taught and believe makes sense to us and we, as today’s Apostles, can teach it to others. If we kept it all to ourselves then we wouldn’t pass it on to others and we would not do what we were chosen to do or what we were born to be sharers of the Word.
The Responsorial Psalm urges us to cry out to God with joy. We are to be sharers of the Word to all we meet. If we kept silent, we would deprive others from being followers of the Word. Sometimes we feel that
it would be better for others to do the work. Then, because we don’t give a good example to others, they we have.
The Gospel story today stresses that if we love the Lord, we will keep God’s commands. God, above
subject to error but he gives us countless opportunities to do good and follow him closely. Did you ever think of the many ways you lead others to God? Just your presence at Mass each Sunday shows others a good
little in our eyes, it can be something very big in another’s eyes.
Keep up the good work because that is what you are called to do. When you do that, you have an affect on others which would surprise you and many good results will follow.
I want to give you a heads up on the Bishop’s visit to our Parish on the last Sunday of June, June 26th , Bishop Larry Silva will come here at the 6 p.m. Mass to Confirm the members of this year’s Confirmation class. The Bishop comes not only to confirm, but to visit us and make his presence known to each of us. As the Bishop, he has concern for all of us and we look forward to his coming.
